WA Police charge man who allegedly went on the run with unlicensed gun

West Australian police have charged a 28-year-old man who allegedly went on the run for over 24 hours after he fled a home in Perth’s east after a disturbance, carrying an unlicensed firearm.

Blake Unkovich was located on Thursday by police at an address in Kiara and has since been charged with a string of serious offences including two counts of deprivation of liberty, threatening to kill and threatening to kill in circumstances of aggravation and two counts of intending to harm another.

He has also been charged with two attempted aggravated armed robbery charges, being armed to cause fear, two counts of possessing an unlicensed firearm, drug paraphernalia and a controlled or prescription drug.

He was refused bail will appear in the Midland Magistrates Court on Friday.

The tactical response group was initially deployed to a home on Hodnet Bend in The Vines about 9.30am on Wednesday, where Unkovich and a woman known to him were allegedly involved in a disturbance.

Inspector Geoff DeSanges on Wednesday said Unkovich left the premises before police arrived, allegedly carrying what was believed to be a 12-gauge shotgun.

He was arrested more than 24 hours later and needed medical assistance for serious injuries.

Neighbour Hilton Linklater told Nine News Perth he had been “scared quite a bit” because his wife was not home and there was “a gunman somewhere around”.

Witness Louise Bronkhorst said she had seen Unkovich in the bushes at the front of the units where the disturbance had taken place.
